WRITER Foundation was formed in 2020 from a generous contribution from Sony Music Publishing, which allowed us to create this grant program to help songwriters/composers experiencing financial hardship during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
This year, in 2021, Sony Music Publishing has made an equally sizeable contribution allowing us to fund applications from 2020 for which we had no funding and re-open applications to a new pool of songwriters in need.
The WRITER Foundation is continuing to solicit donations to this fund. In additional to Sony Music Publishing, the Foundation received donations in 2020 from Concord Music Publishing, Troy Verges, MusicNotes and its employees, the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation, Tamara Casey, Amy Cranford, Tim Reiland and Scott Parker.
Any professional American songwriter/composer ("professional" is being defined here as a songwriter who currently earns the majority of his/her annual income from songwriting or related activities) who is currently experiencing financial hardship directly attributable to the Coronavirus Pandemic and who has not previously received a grant from WRITER Foundation can apply for a $1,000 grant payable directly to the applicant which can be used to pay qualifying essential bills which include:
- Rent or Mortgage payments
- Monthly Insurance premiums
- Monthly Utility payments including water, gas electric, phone and internet
- Car or Car Repair payments
- Medical Bills
We ask you to respect these qualifying essential needs, knowing that many in our community are experiencing major hardships at this time and this donation is intended for those who need it most.
Applications will be carefully reviewed and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the program's funds are depleted. Our web system puts each registrant into a queue where we see who is first, second, etc. We will use this system to determine the order of the applications received when we go live with receiving applications.
